In 2022, OCC partnered with our Employee Network Groups (ENGs) to nominate nonprofit organizations to receive scholarship donations. These donations demonstrate our stewardship and integrity value, representing our commitment to increasing access to education for underrepresented communities and making a positive impact where we live and work. ENG: Black Organization for Leadership Development (BOLD)
Kenwood Oakland Community Organization - $2,500 Donation
The Kenwood Oakland Community Organization (KOCO) serves as a vehicle and voice of low-income and working families in the North Kenwood and Oakland communities of Chicago. KOCO utilizes direct action community organizing as its primary methodology for change and develops new generations of African American leadership that will build stable, viable, and just communities where opportunity is not denied based on race or economic status.
OCC’s donation will fund OCC BOLD scholarships for two individuals who have been involved with KOCO’s youth development programs since they were in elementary school. They are now entering their first year of college at Southern Illinois University and McKendree University in Lebanon, IL.
Colleges That Change Lives - $2,500 Donation
Colleges That Change Lives (CTCL) is dedicated to the advancement and support of a student-centered college search process. CTCL supports the goal of every student finding a college that develops a lifelong love of learning and provides the foundation for a successful and fulfilling life beyond college.
OCC’s donation will contribute to scholarships for individuals who are starting their undergraduate careers at St. Olaf College and Hampshire College this fall.
ENG: Hispanic/Latino OCC Leaders and Allies (HOLA)
Edu-Futuro - $5,000 Donation
Edu-Futuro works to empower immigrant and underserved youth and families through mentorship, education, leadership development and parent engagement. Edu-Futuro has developed a research-based two-generational approach that ensures immigrant youth and families attain postsecondary goals, improve long-term financial stability, and strengthen interfamily cohesiveness.
OCC’s donation will be awarded as an OCC HOLA Scholarship through the Dr. Marjorie L. Myers Scholarship fund. This scholarship will be awarded at the Edu-Futuro Gala on March 3, 2023.
ENG: Women’s Leadership Network (WLN)
Girls Who Code - $5,000 Donation
Girls Who Code works to close the gender gap in technology and change the image of what a programmer looks like and does. OCC’s donation will go towards the College & Career Program which supports college-aged and early career women and non-binary people with developing leadership and professional skills as well as building belonging and community in the tech space. Girls Who Code offers a wide range of programs designed to support college-aged students and early career professionals in persisting in their computer science education and succeeding in their first internships and jobs.
