Dr. Thomas R. Cardello

Dr. Thomas R. Cardello is the founding member of the Venice Group of companies. Venice Group and its affiliates develop and manage quantitative investment strategies for blockchain, commodity, and equity assets. Venice group affiliates also operate projects in solar power generation, and conventional energy production. His active charitable board affiliations include the Kurt Forrest Foundation of Greenwich, Connecticut.
From 2004 until 2010, Dr. Cardello was a managing member of Sunrise Capital Management, a California institutional fund. Prior to that he was a managing director with Morgan Stanley responsible for Global Electronic Equity Derivatives Market Making. There, Dr. Cardello was responsible for this business since its inception in late 1999 and led its growth into a position of recognized national leadership. During this period, he was elected a member of the board of directors of the International Securities Exchange. Dr. Cardello was an Advisory Director at Morgan Stanley until May 2009. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley in 1999, Dr. Cardello owned and managed a consultancy specializing in the structuring of large alternative asset portfolios. He was also on the management committee of the fund Paloma Partners, responsible for investment strategy analysis and development, fund-wide risk analysis, and management of a foreign exchange fund. As managing director of the consultant firm IPS, Dr. Cardello was responsible for development and structuring of hybrid financial derivative/insurance products. Other positions held include principal at Timber Hill/Interactive Brokers Inc.; new product development manager at Bank of America/Security Pacific; Oil Options manager, Trading Systems Development manager and senior research analyst at Standard Chartered Bank/Mocatta; and associate in Fixed Income Risk Management at Goldman Sachs.
Dr. Cardello holds a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master of Philosophy in physics from Yale University, New Haven, and he holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in physics from The Cooper Union, New York.
Dr. Cardello is a Public Director on OCC's Board of Directors and serves on the Regulatory Committee, Risk Committee, and Technology Committee (Chair).
