Sirisha Tallapragada – Associate Principal, Software Engineering • Data Management – in OCC’s Chicago office.
My team is working on a centralized data repository in OCC’s new clearing and settlement platform, Ovation. This repository is the foundation for data analytics which will help stakeholders gain insights that inform strategic decisions.
When I started at OCC, although I was good at my job, I was skeptical about my ability to take up work outside my immediate expertise. My manager and my team saw something in me that I didn't see in myself, which led me into uncharted territory, broadening my skillset as well as helping the team deliver timely results on numerous occasions. The trust and encouragement I’ve received over the past six years helped me become a stronger individual. Although there are days where I’m unsure, now I know that I have colleagues who will support me, which gives me confidence to deliver.
For example, last year, I was tasked with setting up the first storage bucket in the data protection zone for Ovation’s data platform. Although the journey was arduous, this is one of the projects I’m most proud of, and I appreciate the experience of collaborating with several teams to accomplish this goal.
The nature of our work means there’s always trial and error, but my team is ready to help even during off hours. Once when I was deploying an application using new technology to the data protection zone, my teammates jumped in to help throughout the deployment, which meant we learned and evolved together.
In another instance when we had a set up issue with a testing environment, a colleague who was not on duty logged in right away to help resolve it. With Ovation’s launch fast approaching, although the work is challenging, knowing your team has your back eases the pressure.
